Welcome to the Vancouver Sleep and Breathing Centre's home page. The
Vancouver Sleep and Breathing Centre is a specialty clinic that diagnoses and treats
disorders of sleep and breathing, two bodily functions that you never think about until
something goes wrong.
Most of us spend 5-8 hours sleeping every night and take it for granted that we will
fall asleep easily and wake up refreshed in the morning. However, most of us will have
some problem with sleep at least once in our lives and 1 in 5 have a chronic problem with
sleep.
We all breath at a rate of 10-20 times a minute without conscious effort. However, 1 in 5 individuals will have some problem with breathing due to smoking, occupational exposures, or conditions such as asthma (which affects 1 in 20).
The mission of the Vancouver Sleep & Breathing Centre Web Site is to provide basic information about the most common disturbances of sleep and breathing so that people who suffer from these conditions can learn to lead healthier lives.
We have just added a lot of new information to our web site. To find out what is new, please visit What's New in Sleep?. Our next major upgrade will be in July, 1998.
