Back of Pharynx

The velopharyngeal aperture is framed by the soft palate/uvula, the back of the pharynx, and the palatopharyngeus muscles which extend down each side. The epiglottis is the curved cartilage in the middle of the picture. The larynx lies just below it. The base of the tongue rests on the epiglottis.
